OK – it’s 2017 and it’s time to get to stepping…

Welcome to Krazy Kool Geek, your place for all things tech – whether it be serious, off beat or just plain funny – it will be discussed here.  Oh and just a note for those of you that thing that I’m scamming – from time to time Krazy Kool Geek will have postings from my other WP sites like Krazy Kool Geek Syslog and Visionstar Group…

Anyway just a beginning note for now – which this is about the doomed Samsung Galaxy Note 7:

After some investigation into the Note 7’s tendency to explode, Samsung, the manufacturer of the device found that the problems stemmed from two issues.  The first was that the design of the GN7 left little room for the lithium ion battery to breathe or expand when it got hot.  The second was that the software/circuitry that controlled battery thermal runaway didn’t work.

Whatever the case with the GN7 – it has long been my contention that lithium ion battery tech is outmoded.  More so, users of devices that use the aforementioned battery tech deserve better – both from a safety standpoint as well as that of performance.  It shouldn’t be that I have to nightly charge my smartphone, smartwatch and other devices just so that they can make it through a day’s use.  It shouldn’t be that I have that “will it explode” thought in the back of my mind when my Samsung Galaxy 7 gets overly warm when it’s doing a lot of updating.

The issues with the Galaxy Note 7 should bring the need for improvements to the batteries that power our mobile tech to the forefront.  Which, it’s high time that change should happen – because this issue with lithium ion batteries has been going on for decades…

Do you agree with me about lithium ion batteries and the need for better battery tech?  Leave a comment.
